Safeguarding in the sector

Following the recent revelations of sexual abuse and misconduct among aid workers employed by Oxfam and a number of other organisations, ACEVO’s CEO, Vicky Browning, and head of policy, Kristiana Wrixon, are encouraging the sector to prioritise safeguarding above all else.

ACEVO’s position is clear: sexual abuse and sexual violence exists in all countries and all sectors, but charities must be held to the highest possible standard. As a sector, we must show that we neither tolerate nor accept this kind of abuse. Charities must be judged on both the measures they have in place to prevent abuse or misconduct from occurring, and the action they take to minimise the risk of the incident being repeated.

Organisations, whatever the shape or size, must prioritise safeguarding above all else to ensure this never happens again.
