#ACEVOFest speakers: Debi Garrod

ACEVO’s first-ever week-long digital festival takes place on 16-20 November, bringing together social sector leaders to reflect, reboot, rebuild. The full programme is available on the website and in this blog series, you will get to know our speakers a little bit better.

A narrated version of this blog is available at the bottom of the page

Debi Garrod is a corporate psychologist at Something New Together. At #ACEVOFest, she will give you a simple Transformation Design framework to reappraise your priorities, culture, technology, and ways of working so they are fit for purpose for turbulent times.

How would you describe your time working from home because of lockdown in 5 words?

A real mixture – some positive and some challenging.  There has been space to let go of old thinking and behaviours and turn this into different mindsets and thinking: Create new mindsets and opportunities

What was the best thing you did for your own well-being in the past few months?

Meditation, focus on gratitude and acceptance and helping others in lockdown eg set up a charity to help people with shopping and prescriptions etc

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

In the words of the Frozen song – let it go (in UAE they have a word – “Khalli Walli”).

What was your favourite digital discovery this year?

Not really into these as I try to leave my phone alone as much as possible  – I use Headspace for meditation daily and the tide and weather apps to check when to go for a swim.  I did download an app to write down my 3 things I have valued and am grateful for at the end of the day – but i prefer my journal – its in old fashioned paper!!

If you had to leave a message to yourself to read a year from now, what would it be?

Breathe properly!!!
