Policy Round-up: April 2024

In case you missed it, this month’s policy round-up aims to give you a taste into what the policy and influencing team has been up to over the past month.

By Shareen Patel, policy and influencing officer at ACEVO.

Home Truths 2 – Further, Faster

We have now launched the Further, Faster programme, as part of our Home Truths 2 project. It will be convened and facilitated by ACEVO and Voice4Change England, bringing together a group of up to 50 civil society CEOs and senior executives committed to serious action on anti-racism and racial justice – in their organisations and civil society overall. View the programme details and course fees and apply via our online application form. Applications close on Monday 13 May and the successful candidates will be notified at the end of May.

In other news, we published a special episode of our podcast ‘Leadership Worth Sharing’. ACEVO’s head of influencing, Roberta Fusco talks to Sanjiv Lingayah (author of the Home Truths report) and Frances Brown (governance and EDI specialist) about the latest output of the Home Truths 2 programme: Warm Words, Cold Comfort report.

Charity Commission

We have published a member briefing on the recently issued guidance by the Charity Commission on helping charities when it comes to deciding whether to accept, refuse or return a donation. In due course, we will be publishing an additional member briefing on the Commission’s CC27 guidance surrounding charity trustees and decision making.

In separate news, the Charity Commission has recently published a blog on AI. It outlines the Commission’s current regulatory position on AI, plus makes clear that charities should remain mindful of the risks inherent to the use of AI and implications for decision making brought about by AI.

There is growing awareness of AI and speculation alongside worries about the part it can play in charities’ operations. Join us on Wednesday 22 May 11:00-12:00 for an online webinar where Aidan Forman, Director of Technology RNIB and Helena Sans, Head of TMT, Barclays Corporate will discuss the opportunities presented by innovation and AI, the barriers to be overcome such as funding and expertise, how to get started with AI, and how to help staff on the journey. Book your place to attend.

The policy and influencing team is here to help! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at policy@acevo.org.uk or with me directly at shareen.patel@acevo.org.uk.
