Join the Great Big Green Week

By the Great Big Green Week team

Are you ready to make a difference and showcase your organisation’s commitment to sustainability? The Great Big Green Week is just around the corner, and we’re inviting you to take part. In this blog, we’ll explore what the Great Big Green Week is all about and how you can get involved to help drive positive change for our planet.

What is the Great Big Green Week?

The Great Big Green Week, taking place this year between 8 and 16 June, is a nationwide week of climate and nature events. Organised by The Climate Coalition, the Great Big Green Week brings people from all over the country together in a week-long celebration of positive, hopeful, collective action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

This year is all about swaps—whether it’s friends swapping fast fashion for second-hand finds, charities swapping unloved wastelands into biodiverse habitats, or businesses swapping fossil fuels for solar panels.

Why take part?

The Great Big Green Week sees hundreds of thousands of people come together in every corner of the country. By joining the Great Big Green Week, you have the opportunity to be part of this national moment, and to:

  • Demonstrate your commitment: showcase your dedication to sustainability to your customers and supporters.
  • Gain new supporters: more than a third of attendees engage with an organisation for the first time when they attend a Great Big Green Week event and many stay engaged with them going forwards.
  • Engage your community: connect with people by involving them in meaningful conversations about sustainability and climate action.
  • Inspire change: lead by example and inspire other organisations to adopt more sustainable practices, creating a ripple effect of positive impact.

How to get involved

Here are some of the ways you can take part in the Great Big Green Week:

  • Host an event: organise an event between 8 and 16 June for your supporters. Could you plan a skill swap day, helping people to upcycle household items? Or perhaps a panel discussion or conference all about sustainability in your sector? Alternatively, what about a tree planting day or a local nature tour?
  • Organise a staff event:get your colleagues together and organise a staff event. What about having a plant-based, green-themed menu in your office for the week, or a car-free week?
  • Join a Green Week: many communities across the UK run their own ‘Green Weeks’ – a collection of local events in one area. Why not connect with other local environmental groups, suppliers or businesses who are also planning events to join up into one Green Week?
  • Share your story: celebrate the sustainable initiatives you’ve already put in place by shouting about them. If you’ve swapped to local ingredients, reduced food waste or implemented measures to save energy – tell your story on social media using the hashtag #SwapTogether.

How to get started

Ready to join the celebrations and make a difference?

Whether you’re planning a zero-waste cooking workshop or a green-themed menu promotion, the Great Big Green Week website has everything you need to support you being part of this national week of action – including easy-to-use content for social media promotion.

Make sure you add your events to the website so that other people in your local area can find out about what you’re planning using the event finder. Once you’ve added your event to the website, you’ll be sent a FREE pack of branded materials – including posters, bunting and flyers – to show at your event.

Let’s swap together for good

By coming together at the same time in every corner of the country, the Great Big Green Week will show people everywhere are already making swaps to help create a safer, greener future.  This June, let’s swap together for good.
