ACEVO’s partner Womble Bond Dickinson has written a briefing exclusively for ACEVO members, analysing the long-awaited judgement of the case against the CEO and trustees of Kids Company. The case considered the possibility of director disqualification orders being made against trustees of the insolvent charity and whether the charity’s chief executive should be classed as a “de facto” director and also disqualified (spoiler alert: no). Read the full analysis with expert commentary here

On 23 March, the National Audit Office released the findings from its investigation into government funding to charities during the pandemic. The report is part of a programme of work undertaken by the National Audit Office to support parliamentary scrutiny of the government’s response to Covid-19. In this member briefing, head of policy Kristiana Wrixon shares and analyses the report’s main points.

We’ve published a new episode of the Leadership Worth Sharing podcast. In this episode, Vicky speaks to Jim Minton, CEO of Toynbee Hall. They talk about the importance of constantly learning as a leader, getting the community you serve involved in creating solutions for the issues they face, and why every chief executive can sometimes feel like they are a radio presenter.

News from ACEVO

This year’s Pay and Equalities survey is now live. For over 10 years, your responses to this survey have allowed us to provide the sector with a full, up-to-date picture of pay and reward for its chief executives, as well as an understanding of diversity and equality at senior levels. Sponsored by Sarasin & Partners, this report is the only one of its kind in the sector, and we can only produce it with your help. Please take 20 minutes to fill in the survey. You will also help us understand the sector’s strengths, and where it needs to get even better. The survey is open until 5pm on Thursday 15 April.

We have signed up to the Show the Salary campaign, which means that ACEVO will always advertise the salary for all vacancies we have.

Support for you

Falling income has affected the majority of ACEVO members during the pandemic, and the prospects for recovery still seem a way off. However, making a small reduction in your organisation’s operating costs can have the same effect as an increase in income. ACEVO’s partner ProVantage Procurement is a charity sector specialist organisation focusing on reducing costs. If you would like to have a free review of your spend and contracts to identify where you can make savings, please email Peter Roberts.

With many organisations working remotely, offices across the country sit empty and susceptible to various risks, such as fire, theft and flooding. ACEVO’s partner Endsleigh has been working to ensure ACEVO members have the continuous cover they need under ever-evolving circumstances, including extended unoccupancy periods for commercial properties. If you’re currently covered with Endsleigh, get in touch with your account manager on 0333 234 1358 or email for more information about the cover provided for empty properties. You can also read this blog to find out more about risk management for unoccupied premises.
