ICYMI: July 2022

In case you missed it is a monthly round-up of what we have been up to at ACEVO. Comms & content lead Heloisa Righetto shares links to recently published content, newly launched events and services available to members.

Latest resources

‘Cost of living’ has been the most searched term on our website for the past few months, perhaps unsurprisingly. So the ACEVO team has put together a resource hub on the website, comprising links to informative reports and articles, tools to support your colleagues and employees, and campaigns you might want to know more about and get involved with. Please get in touch if you have any suggestions for us to include on the page. And feel free to share the link with your colleagues and networks: this page is open to all.

To wrap up this year’s Pride Month, we invited the team at #CharitySoStraight to takeover the ACEVO Twitter profile for a few hours. They shared many tips about leading with pride, being a proud ally, and avoiding pride washing. If you missed it, the ACEVO team has published a blog with the key takeaways

ACEVO’s new CEO Jane Ide hosted her first podcast episode, with Raakhi Shah, CEO of The Circle. The Circle is a global feminist organisation that fights for the rights and supports the safety of the most vulnerable women and girls worldwide. They talked about working across different cultures and political systems, taking a CEO role for the first time during the pandemic, and the importance of bringing your whole self to work. Listen to the conversation – or read the transcript – on the website, where you can also catch up with all previous episodes.

Announced new events, training & networking

ACEVO and the Association of Chair’s Dynamic Duo workshop will be back on 11 October. The full-day training session, sponsored by Sarasin & Partners, is aimed at charity CEOs and chairs and explores how to balance the roles and bring out the best in each other by looking at the CEO/chair relationship from both perspectives. Chairs and chief executives are welcome, and we recommend you attend as a pair. It’s an excellent opportunity to take stock of and review how you work together. Please check the website for more details, pricing, and booking your place

We are running a one-day workshop on 1 December for chief executives who want their board to go beyond ‘ticking the box’ when it comes to governance. Hosted by Leading Governance managing director Joy Allen, this session is a must for those wishing to support their board to change its structure, processes, mindsets and behaviours. By the end of the day, you will have clarity about the meaning of ‘board effectiveness’, practical tools to support conversations about risk appetite and boardroom change, and the confidence to begin the process and engage your chair and trustees. Every organisation has values, affecting the way it shows up every day, and how its governed. But how do we as CEOs really bring them to life, so they aren’t just statements on our website but truly embedded in our organisations, and in our behaviours, every single day? Join us for a one-day in person workshop to learn how to be more conscious of your organisation’s values and more intentional about how you use them. Book now
