ICYMI: August 2022

In case you missed it is a monthly round-up of what we have been up to at ACEVO. Comms & content lead Heloisa Righetto shares links to recently published content, newly launched events and services available to members.

Announced new events, training & networking

ACEVO members: join ACEVO’s chief executive Jane Ide, ACEVO’s chair Rosie Ferguson and treasurer Joyce Materego at our annual update on Monday 31 October, from 15:30-16:30 to review our annual trustee report and accounts for the last financial year. This is an opportunity for you to hear about ACEVO’s financial performance in 2021-22, our achievements and plans for the future, and ask questions about our activities or governance.

If you are based in or near Manchester, we’d love to see you at our upcoming member networking event on 22 November from 4-6pm. Come and say hello! You’ll also have the opportunity to meet other CEOs, share concerns and learnings, or ask for advice. Book your place now

We know how busy everyone’s calendar can get in the weeks leading to the festive period. So although the weather feels anything but wintery right now we’d like to get ahead of the game and invite you to our festive networking event in London on 8 December. It will be an informal gathering to share reflections on the past year and our hopes for the year to come.

News from ACEVO

Last month, we welcomed a new partner to ACEVO’s community of trusted suppliers: Access Insurance, a chartered insurance broker for charities and social enterprises. Access Insurance provides clients with specific insurance recommendations based on its specialist knowledge of not-for-profits. This approach results in clients getting a bespoke policy that covers their unique risks and only paying for the cover they need. To find out more and get in touch, please check the website

As a leader, you’ve probably prioritised the wellbeing of your team over the last two and a half years and made sure that each person has had the support they needed. But what about you? Who have you been able to call upon to ensure you are at the top of your game? Kevin Downsworth from First Position Performance Development writes about the benefits of having a coach and receiving the same level of support you wish for others.

One of the biggest challenges we face is responding to the worsening crises facing people and planet and simultaneously taking action to improve how we operate and increase our organisations’ diversity, equity and inclusion. These are often positioned in opposition to each other, competing for attention and resources. In this blog, Peter Gilheany, director at Forster Communications, explains why this is a misconception and argues that leaders need to look both ways.
