We welcome the Prime Minister’s rapid response since her appointment on Monday to the high levels of concern in the country around the cost of living crisis. It is good to hear that she and her government are committed to supporting households and communities, and it is encouraging to know that energy bills will be capped for the next two years – that will provide some much needed relief for many.
However, we are concerned that these initial measures may not go far enough in support of those in the greatest financial need, and we know that the pressures on the cost of living go beyond just energy bills. We look forward to working with government to develop further the details that sit behind this announcement and particularly to supporting any further measures that might be considered that provide greater support for those that need it.
We were particularly pleased to hear the Prime Minister explicitly reference charities in her announcement of business support. We look forward to seeing more detail of the planned six month package of support and again, will hope to work with government on longer term arrangements for those in our sector that will need further support beyond that initial package.
