The 2019 edition of our annual conference will take place at the Business Design Centre in London on 21 November, and will focus on Leading Outside the Ordinary. The full programme is available on the website, and in this blog series, you will get the know our speakers a little bit better.
Hannah Massarella is the founder of Bird. At the conference, she will talk about how resilience can help you have a clearer view of stressful situations.
What’s your favourite thing about working in the social sector?
I love working with people who honour values of caring for others and helping humanity as a whole. I love working with and supporting people in the sector who are most often kind, considerate and compassionate.
What does leading outside the ordinary mean to you?
I’m a fan of leadership from the side or from behind. I think we need leaders who don’t just show and expect others to follow, but we need leaders who can recognise and champion others in their attempts to try new things and move forward.
What’s the best professional advice you’ve been given?
Just keep showing up, but be self-compassionate if things don’t always go to plan.
What’s your favourite thing to do for your own well being?
Daily yoga and meditation.
Why do you think it’s important to attend networking events?
Because it’s helpful to remember you are not on your own in the challenges you are navigating. To remember common humanity.
